3D Cinema on the slide?
After the highly successful 3D film avatar hit the screens it was assumed that the films that included 3D elements would be very sucessful at the box office. However this has not been the case as the amount films have made after being released in 3D have been having a lower opening weekend revenue. An example of such a failure is "Cats and Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore" which only grossed $6.9 million in 3D revenue on its opening weekend. Even though studios executive are disputing that the public are losing interest in 3D. "it does not show that fewer people are choosing 3D" says Patrick Corcoran the spokesman for national association of theater owners. The other problem is that there is not enough cinemas equipped with 3D equipment so movies have been competing for the scarce number of 3D equipped venues. "The audience for 3D is growing, right along with the 3D screen count" corcoran said. The have been a few successes however such as "Alice in Wonderland" along with "Toy story 3" making $400 million in combined 3D tickets sales in the US alone. But the amount of money grossed for 3D films on average has been going downward ever since avatars first release.
