How have national and local audiences have been targeted by Disney in their promotion of TRON?

Various posters and marketing event took place before the film was released, both in the US and internationally. Disney California Adventure started having nightly dance parties dubbed 'ElecTRONica' which was inspired by the new film. The parties are said to be filled with music, lights and some of your favorite food and beverage, all engulfed in the world of “TRON: Legacy.”
targeted local audiences due to the disney park being located in California. Sneek peak trailers for the film was also shown on the disney channel US leading up to the films release. Also select Imax cinemas around the world showed a 23 minute preview and various merchandise were available to buy at the cinemas aswell.


Other tron related promotions were abroad such as the disney being involved with the desiging of a high tech hotel suite in The Ice Hotel which is located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. This suite is said to be inspired by the film and is called "The legacy of the river".

Daft Punk who are involved with composing the soundtrack for Tron the duo are orignally from France. A video game was also released for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC and the PSP. A facebook page that recieved exclusive video clips and behind the scenes footage every tuesday leading up the release of Tron. This was available locally and internationally to promote the film, a Tron night was held on the 28th october in select 3D Imax and 3D cinemas world wide a 20 minute sneekpeak was shown. Theatrical trailers for the film were attached with Alice In Wonderland, Step up 3D, Resident Evil Afterlife and Jackass 3D.

Various viral sites were also set up by disney such as homeoftron.com, several websites associate with movies said they recieved in the mail a pair of "Flynn's Arcade" tokens along with a flash drive. On the flash drive was a GIF that showed CSS code lines after four of these code lines were put together part of the code was cracked and revealed a URL to Flynnlives.com. This fictional site said to be maitained by some activists that Kevin Flynn is still alived however has been missing since 1989. An address emerged in the terms and conditions section this address lies in San Diego, California near the cities convention center where the Annual  Comic Con event is held every year. Tron legacy in 2009 and 2010 made an appearance at Comic Con and also released some new footage and information related to the film.

Comparing Tron Legacy to the british film Moon

First of all the budget difference between the two films is significantly different, with moon having the much smaller budget of $5 million compared to the $170 million spent on the marketing for Tron alone. The CGI and effects for Tron are far more advanced compared to the effects having to be actually made in real life for moon. Other examples include the younger version of kevin flynn being possble with more advance technology compared the physical effect for moon.
