In a typical British films there are hidden hints that show that it is a British film we studied this in the film 'Hot Fuzz' in the lesson. The catergories that we discussed included:
- Upper class characters (snobby).
- References to the Queen.
- Iconic things that we associate with Britain.
- The irony of laughing at ourselves with British humour.
This was shown in Hot Fuzz in the opening sequence of the different British police sirens this is to illustrate the changes in the police service over time. a union flag is show win the montage sequence of the main character Nicholas Angel also in this montage it is shown that he is part of the metropolitan police, through the use of his service badge shown. Where he graduated from university was Canterbury and born schooled in London. This is relevant because it is mentioning places in Britain. The patrol car that is shown is a Vauxal Astra which is a standard British police car. When Nicholas arrives at the village he speaks to the owner of the hotel he is staying at, the terminology used is remotely British such as 'I beg your pardon'. I think Hot Fuzz is a great example of a British film that outlines things that we associate with Britishness and would be recognisable in other countries and cultures.
