Production - Film production was 14 weeks long and was primarily filmed in the UK, other film locations chosen though were in Canada. It was directed by Matthew Vaughan and produced by Mark Miller.
Inspiration - It was based on the comic book of the same name which was written by Mark Miller. The comic was published by Marvel comic known for high profile comic book characters such as X-men and Spiderman. The Plot differs slightly from the comic book because in the comic book the girl turns him down, however in the film he wins her over.
Problems during production - One of the main problems that they had during production was the script Miller wasnt happy being told that they would have to change the ending because he 'don't really do happy endings' so that was a challenge for the production team to convince him that it was the right choice.
Controversy surrounding the film - Some language that was used during the film including one use of the c-word prompted some complaints by family groups. Because of the strong violence and language it was given a 15 rating by the BBFC. Some of the reason why it was so controversial was because the actress Chloë Moretz who is a young actress 11 at the time of filming had been using this language and violence. Because of the 15 rating it was given this would eliminate the theory that kick ass is a four quadrant picture due to the fact that a younger audience are not permitted to watch it.
Advertising and merchandise - A video game was developed for selected apple devices like the ipod touch and iphone. A new comic book was developed during production of the film to be released when the film was out. A soundtrack was also released.
Cutting costs - The setting of the film was Manhattan but was film in london and canada. this was to save costs and the settings could be created by using green screens with high quality resolution picture of Manhattan.
Box office performance and reviews - The film received highly positive reviews from critics highlighting that they enjoyed the performance given by Chloë Moretz and the humour and audacity of the film. Kick Ass managed to gross over $96,130,462 at the box office.
