This extract from the tv drama spooks explores the hatred showed by the captures and the hostages. They are angry over the invasion iraq. The establishing shot shows the isolation between the captures and the hostages as they are sat at a table together compared to the capture who are stood up. This shows the differences between the two cultures. The camera shots in the scenes are shakey this makes the scene more intense to the audience. The reasons for caputuring them are explained and are racicst in their views. They defend this because of the losses they have faced so blame the agents. The woman is asked about a person who has been killed and she looks down at the floor. She replied she has no idea what he is talking about. A close up shot of the picture is shown to the audience with tense music in the background showing how quick loss of life can be achieved.
Futher on in the scene the woman is forced to read out a script because of the threat of killing the man. The masked man uses a knife this could be a stereo type due to their different ethnicity. The media has built up a stereo type that black people are percived to be weilding knifes and are violent this is enforced in this scene. A close up on the video camera is used to enforce the isolation and the situation that the agents are facing. Non-diegetic music is used throughout the scene you can conclude this because it is playing over the characters when they are speaking this makes the atmosphere feel more dark to the audience. The scene then finishes with the kidnappers explaining that if they cooperate then they will be treated fairly. This could be percieved of a stereotype of people from iraq that they are violent and will do anything to gain people attention.

Tom. Look on the audience and institution blog for the Kick Ass task (that's not me trying to be 'cool', the film is actually called Kick Ass).
