The cast of actors will effect the target audience because Sam Rockwell who plays the main character of the film is not a well known actor. On the other hand Kevin Spacey play a voice role for the robot GERTY, Kevin is quite well known for being in blockbuster films like American Beauty so the audience may watch Moon for that reason. The budget for the film is a factor for the audience because of the limited advertising and below the line advertising. Adverts were mostly internet based because it is cheaper than above the line advetising like paying a channel to show the trailer for the film. It was also first screened at vaious film festivals so it applys to film fanatics and is more appealing to critics. Because of the small budget it also has a small release so the audience is a lot smaller. Due to the plot being very slow paced it is harder to market and make a trailer without it being misleading and present the film in a positive way, so some may have to rely on reviews.
The film is mostly aimed at hardcore sci-fi picture it may not apply to sci-fi fans that watch films that are heavily based on special effects then Moon may not apply to you, so if someone watched star wars for the effects then you may or may not enjoy Moon. Some sci-fi fans of 2001-A Space Odessey and cult sci-fi classic will notice the inspiratons that the director has taken from them. Another way that the audience is limited is that it is a 15 certified film so it is not targeted for a younger audience.
Another factor in the who the audience is the way the it is written makes it appealing to other audiences. For example the romance that sam has for his wife makes it appealing to people who watch films that are emotional and human. Because of the isolated nature of the film some may find this off putting, if you explained the plot very simply like one man is one the moon who has nearly finish his 3 year contract of looking after a moon base. This would make it sound very boring so that is another reason why it does not fit into the catergory as a four-quadrant picture.
