Synopsis
it is set in the future an astronaut is living on the moon for a 3 year contract with a mining company. A satalite is broken so he cannot communicate with anybody at home. his time is nearly over though, however his health starts to get worse and he has an near fatal accident whilst driving on the moon. Afterwards a clone of him appears at the station and they fix and put the base back into working order.
About Moon
It was directed by young director Duncan Jones and stars Sam Rockwell as the lonely astronaut Sam Bell. It was premiered at the 2009 Sundance film festival and was limited released starting on the 12th June 2009. The Film Budget was $5 million and its box office it took was $9,059,519.
Inspirations
The director describes himself that he is a 'sci-fi geek' that said that such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey and outland inspired the retro feel of the film and that he describes it as the 'golden era' of sci-fi films.
About The Cast
Sam Bell played by Sam Rockwell who is a well known actor who's more famous appearances include the recent film Frost/Nixon. He has also received many awards such as at the Berlin Film Festival he received the Silver Berlin Bear Award' and Movieline's 'Breakthrough Performance of the Year Award'.
The Voice of Gerty is played by Kevin Spacey films that he is well known for includes The Usual Suspects for which he recieved an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and American Beauty for which he won a BAFTA and an Academy Award for Best Actor. He also owns a production company called Trigger Street.
